Interim Management

Interim managers are especially useful in situations where their objectivity and business knowledge can solve problems which the existing management team do not have the specialist skills or time for. Whether it is to bring about planned growth or to bridge an unexpected vacancy, we can provide the services of experienced executives to work as an integral part of your organisation for as long as required.

Typical roles for an interim manager are:

Interim managers are experienced executives who make a contribution right from day one. They do not require training or get involved with internal politics. They bring no 'baggage' when they arrive, incur costs only as long as they are needed by the client, and disappear silently when the job is done!

Disciplines

Our associates have a mix of skills covering a number of technical disciplines including

All of them have had P&L responsibility and/or been head of function in major organisations. All have appropriate professional qualifications including MBAs or other higher degrees. Most importantly, they all have extensive practical experience of a wide range of business situations and can 'hit the ground running' right from the start.

Typical assignments

Turnaround of a noise control systems company
Our associate took over as interim Managing Director in a drop-dead situation and immediately prioritised and re-focussed the sales and marketing activity before going on to identify and address weaknesses in product design and procurement. A critical assessment of the strategic options for the parent company included further investment, disposal or closure. The sale of the business to a third party (as a TUPE transfer) was subsequently completed in just seven weeks.

R&D management for a Far-Eastern multinational
Richmond Management Services' executive oversaw the rapid expansion of the UK R&D facility on a new site to 75 staff, grouped in two product development divisions working on next-generation mobile telephones and digital television systems, which involved recruiting a new divisional manager and chief accountant and installing a new project accounting system. He was also responsible for identifying promising European technological developments for worldwide exploitation by the parent company.

Manufacturing/Operations improvement for an aerospace components company
The interim Operations Manager's initial task was to bring about an immediate improvement in the delivery dates for several major contracts. This was followed by a period of consolidation, bringing structure to the operations function and ensuring that responsibilities were correctly allocated and performance was measured. At the same time a new production strategy was introduced and a proper MRP database was developed to underpin production planning and materials management. Finally, a carefully-planned handover to a new General Manager was brought about.
